Comprehensive Athletic Physicals for Students (CAPS) provides a free comprehensive pre-participation medical examination with an electrocardiogram (ECG) performed for the purpose of clearance to participate safely in athletics.
May 18, 2019 at Thornton High School
7:30 am to 4 pm
More information coming soon.
Must register to attend. Registration opens April 9, 2019.
We will review medical and family history as well as evaluate the following in the physical exam:
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
- Blood Pressure
- Eyes, ears, nose, throat
- Lymph nodes
After the examination, your son/daughter will be cleared for all sports without restriction or not cleared with recommendations for further evaluation or treatment. If your child is not cleared, we will communicate with you and your child’s primary care physician.
It is important to know that the examination you receive at CAPS does not replace your annual medical examination or well child visit provided by your primary care physician. The physicians volunteering at CAPS will not be performing examinations evaluating for hernias or other abnormalities of the male or female reproductive systems. Every young athlete needs to be seen by their primary care physician every year for a complete physical to include a more detailed immunization update, growth chart monitoring, mental health screening, male/female reproductive exams, etc.
If you have questions about your child’s health or medical history, please contact your primary care provider. Receiving comprehensive and continuous care at a patient-centered medical home increases the likelihood of achieving maximized health outcomes for your child. If you need assistance finding a primary care provider please contact Children's Hospital Colorado ParentSmart Healthline at (720) 777-0123. Staff members will recommend a primary care doctor in your area.
