Ms. Karen G Smith serves as the School Counselor for students with the last names of P-SM and the 504 Coordinator for students with the last names P-Z. This is her 12th year as a School Counselor and 21st year as an educator. She began her career as a Preschool Teacher, and served as Gifted and Talented Coordinator and middle school counselor in Boulder Valley, and a high school counselor at Sheridan High School, prior to joining Adams 12 Five Star Schools. She also serves as Junior Class Sponsor.
Ms. Smith graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology, a Masters in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity (MAEECD) from CU Boulder, and a Masters of Education (MAed) in Educational Counseling from the University of Phoenix.
Ms. Smith is from New England, grew up in Rhode Island and then settled in the Boston area to raise her family. She is the proud Mom of three terrific young men Ryan – a Physicist, Colin – a junior studying business at Metropolitan University of Denver, and Logan – a sophomore at the University of Miami studying Vocal Jazz Performance and Political Science.
Ms. Smith is currently serving as the President-Elect of the Colorado School Counselor Association (CSCA) and 2018-2019 will be her Presidential year! In addition to serving on the CSCA Board of Directors since 2008, Ms. Smith also serves on various scholarship and civic committees. She was also recently invited to attend the CEMETS Institute this past summer studying the apprenticeship system in Switzerland.
