Ms. Karen G Smith serves as the School Counselor for students with the last names of ROC-TA. This is her 14th year as a School Counselor and 23rd year as an educator. She began her career as a Preschool Teacher, Gifted and Talented Coordinator, and Middle School Counselor in Boulder Valley. Ms. Smith also served as a High School Counselor in the southern metropolitan Denver area, prior to joining Adams 12 Five Star Schools. Ms. Smith has served as a counselor at Silver Hills Middle School, The International School at Thornton Middle, and joined the Legacy Counseling Staff in 2016.
Ms. Smith graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology, a Masters in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity (MAEECD) from CU Boulder, and a Masters of Education (MAed) in Educational Counseling from the University of Phoenix.
Ms. Smith is from New England, grew up in Rhode Island and then settled in the Boston area to raise her family. She is the proud Mom of three terrific young men Ryan – a Physicist, Colin – a senior studying business at Metropolitan University of Denver, and Logan – a senior at the University of Miami studying Vocal Jazz Performance and International Relations.
Ms. Smith is currently serving as Past-President of the Colorado School Counselor Association (CSCA). In addition to serving on the CSCA Board of Directors since 2008, Ms. Smith also serves on various scholarship and civic committees. She was also recently invited to attend the CEMETS Institute during the summer of 2017, studying the apprenticeship system in Switzerland. Her volunteer work in career education continues with CareerWise Colorado, and various other state committees. Ms. Smith also serves as an adjunct instructor for Adams State University, School Counseling Induction Program through the Office of Extended Studies.
